Desert People
New Page 1
This painting tells the story of the Aboriginal
people in the Great Australian Deserts. The aerial view of the landscape shows
the ever changing land and constant movement of the Aboriginal people.
Aboriginal people have a close connection with
their land, often traveling the Great Deserts in seek of food and water for
months at a time. Although Aboriginal people may have been in constant search of
food, each tribe would only travel within the certain area of the Desert where
they were familiar with the seasons, and the effect they had on the Desert and
food supplies of a certain area of the Desert. This painting seeks to capture
this area and the people of the Desert.
The yellow dots represent women and children
collecting water, berries, wild flowers, eggs and the like, while the brown dots
represent the men hunting animals for food.
The different coloured lines represent the wet
and dry seasons. During the different seasons, different food sources are
available. When the Desert landscape is lush more women and children are
required collect food, when animals are abundant more men are required to hunt.
